She Can Hear
Hailey underwent successful ear surgery about a month ago to place tubes in her ears because her ears were not ventilating properly. It is a fairly common procedure without many side effects or pain. Hailey's ENT said the hardest adjustment she will have is getting used to all the noise she can now hear. For the past year hear ears have been so full of fluids and infection that she had become accustomed to a world of muffledness. She was an angry child coming out os anesthesia, but did well later that day. Even Lucy, who was creating an extreme amount of decibels, did not seem to bother her. However, we noticed a lot of scratch marks and scabs in her ear. We think she was picking at her ears with her sharp fingernails because they felt so different to her. Since her surgery, her vocabulary has begun to flourish. Just a few of her new favorite words are: moon, baby, Luce (as in Lucy), yellow, cheese, bath, treat, drink, ball, and tons of animal sounds (our favorite is her frog sound, which sounds a bit like a dry-heave).
